I am about to buy this unit because I have had one just like it, only with a wood finish, for 6 years. It will be a great house warming gift. It works perfectly though it has some foibles. The outdoor sensor has to be kept out of direct sunlight or you have to get up before the sun or read the outdoor temperature when it is shaded. Keep it on the north side of the house like they tell you! Complaints about the read-out size are exagerated. As far as being cheap -it's plastic, people, and it costs $36 - it IS CHEAP. Technology is changing and the price is coming down on these units. My kids did pay $100+ for the unit, but that was the price six years ago. Times change. I bet you can't find a better weather instrument with an atomic clock for any where near this price. Keep the directions where you can find them. Especially when changing the battery.
